Dennis Rumley is Professor of Indian Ocean Studies and Distinguished Research Fellow at Curtin University WA and has been appointed Australia’s focal point in the Indian Ocean Rim Academic Group. Since obtaining a PhD in Political Geography at the University of British Columbia he has taught and researched at UWA, with the exception of an interval from 1991-3, when he was Professor of Australian Studies at the University of Tokyo. He was also appointed Visiting Research Professor at Kyoto University in 2004.
He has been an editorial board member of various international journals and has published 10 books and more than 130 scholarly papers in political geography and international relations, electoral geography, local government, federalism, Australia’s regional relations, geopolitics, India-Australia relations and the Indian Ocean Region. He is currently Chairperson of the Indian Ocean Research Group and Chief Editor of its flagship journal, Journal of the Indian Ocean Region.
