Australia India Institute Director Amitabh Mattoo has been appointed Mal Smith Asia Fellow at the distinguished Ormond College at The University of Melbourne.
Professor Amitabh Mattoo is a Professor of International Relations at the University of Melbourne and Professor of Disarmament Studies at the Centre for International Politics, Organisation, and Disarmament at New Delhi's Jawaharlal Nehru University.
The fellowship was originally established by Professor Malcolm Smith, one of the world's authorities on Japanese law and first Class honours student from The University of Melbourne, and his wife Dr Rosalynd Smith in 2000 to support a visit by a distinguished scholar from Asia to the college.
The fellowship aims to promte the understanding and discussion, and to foster stronger cultural and academic links between the students, Ormond, and Asia.
Professor Mattoo says he is "delighted to accept this prestigious honour, and look[s] forward to further contributing to enhancing the understanding of Asia at Melbourne University"
